Ben Long Ice Cream Coving Dismaland 460px

Two works by Ben Long, Horse Scaffolding Sculpture (2015) and Ice Cream Coving (2010)

feature in Banksy's theme park extravaganza Dismaland at the former Tropicana Lido in the

English sea-side town of Weston Super Mare.

Dismaland which runs for 5 weeks from 21st August to 27th September features artworks from 59 leading artists.

Long's Horse Scaffolding Sculpture, a 30-foot equestrian sculpture made entirely from

scaffolding components, has been installed amongst rides and large-scale artworks. The

sculpture was originally displayed at the Economist Plaza in central London, commissioned by

The Contemporary Art Society in 2009. It has subsequently been shown at Visual Center for

Contemporary Art in Carlow, Ireland as part of the group show Beasts of England Beasts of

Comparing Horse Scaffolding Sculpture to civic equestrian monuments, Long made the following comment ahead of the Dismaland exhibition:

"What you see is something less permanent and more skeletal. In a way it could be read as a

spectre of imperialism, the bare bones of something that once seemed insurmountably grand."

A signed limited edition print of Horse Scaffolding Sculpture is available to pre-order here.

Long's 2.5m sculpture Ice Cream Coving is displayed in the themepark gallery alongside works by Damien Hirst, Jimmy Cauty, Jenny Holzer, Neta Harari Navon, Maskull Lasserre and

Banksy himself.
